A Day in the Life Of... Inches-A-Weigh Franchise



A Day in the Life of an Inches-A-Weigh Franchise Owner:



I typically work Mon-Fri and a half day on Saturday. I’ll open the store in the morning normally 6:30 and get store ready for the day. I’ll check my voicemail and emails. At the same time many of our clients will arrive for their cardiovascular exercise prior to their 7 a.m. toning table class (@ 45 min. each class). Our center also becomes quite a social event as clients will likely become friends while participating at our facility. We will instruct the classes catering each class from beginners to advanced participants. First few hours of the morning the classes are given. A nutritional counselor is available throughout the day for measurements/weighing/etc. and offer dietary support for our visitors.

Our part-time staff will come in and take over the afternoon classes. I will spend my afternoons in the office focusing on marketing - phone calls/mailers/publications, possibly going on appointments to promote our center in the community. I also meet with potential clients that I’ve had scheduled meetings with to go over the philosophy of Inches-A-Weigh and how the program will help them reach their goals. I will do demos for them to show them the process and how we can help them achieve their personal goals. I will give tours of the center and so forth at this point. We offer several payment plans to help each client afford our services.

I will typically leave the center around 3-5 pm and have one of the staff members close down the center. I will also look at all reports and future plans in the comfort of my home where we have access to all the store information. We use a fantastic software, Track My calls, which has a company 800# for each source of advertising that we use. From this report, it will tell us how many calls we’ve gotten from which sources and will be able to listen to the messages as well as track their addresses to send mailers to etc. This software has become a valuable tool in helping us determine which advertising sources perform best and which ones get the best return on investment.

What’s your typical sales cycle?

Point of contact to point of sale could take 45 min to an hour.

How is your business operated (i.e. staff involved, etc)?

6 staff members including myself and my partner Dorothy Ferrante (3 part-timers).

How have you enjoyed operating your Inches-A-Weigh Franchise?

I absolutely love working with Inches-A-Weigh and would without question do this again.

If you could offer any advice to prospective franchisees, what would you offer?

Prospective owners should have the following characteristics - flexibility/love working with people/drive to succeed/and being a health professional will help, but is not necessary. Also, having supervisory experience and/or business experience is recommended.
