In the fall of 1994, when companies were cutting out middle management positions, I suddenly found myself unemployed, a mortgage to pay, and a young family to care for. Companies were not looking to fill management positions at the time, which forced me to look at opportunities for self employment. Someone suggested I check out Merry Maids and so began my research. I visited a number of offices to see if that would be a right fit for me and my family. I liked the idea of daytime hours, and free weekends and holidays. Merry Maids provided a great training program and a support network of other franchise owners, and so began our adventure. The first five years were filled with lots of learning, hard work, missed sleep, and no vacation time. But the effort and sacrifices made paid off in dividends. Since starting our Merry Maids business in November of 1994, we have added additional Merry Maids territories, opened up another office and seen our business and profits grow most years, even in tough economic times. Our business has opened up opportunities for our family members. Our daughter, recently graduated from University with her Business Degree in Human Resources and now joins us full time in the business. She made this decision on her own, after working part time and learning every aspect of the business from the cleaning perspective, scheduling of customers and staff, to general bookkeeping, all while attending university. I guess she knows a good business when she sees one. She is filled with all kinds of great ideas and aspirers to see us grow the business to the next level. Today, Merry Maids provides us with a healthy income, the opportunity to deliver great service to our customers, and time off to enjoy vacations, travelling and family.
