What Does It Take To Be Awarded A Franchise? Truth be known, it is more than just filling out an application and writing a check. Afterall, franchisors can only tell so much from a franchise application.

After the franchisor makes sure you're financially qualified to start start a franchise, the real due diligence process begins. Who are you? Are you responsible and will you devote the time and the energy to make this franchise successful?

Discovery Day

Here is your opportunity to meet the franchise company and the people you'll be dealing with on a daily basis for the next five to 10 years. For the franchisor, a Discovery Day is not only a chance to get up close and personal with a potential franchisee, it is also an opportunity to assess the candidates skill sets and passion for your business model.

What Franchisors are Looking For

Ideally, franchisors would love to see a former corporate executive, with a business background who has had experience managing people. A person who knows how to follow rules and operate within an established system. Even more ideal, would be a candidate who has already owned a franchise business and been successful.

Someone once told me, a person's profile on any given day can change every half hour. Let's face it, we all have our ups and downs and our personalities can change with the wind. In today's world, we're all under more pressure than maybe ever before. So, while a franchisor may have a dream profile it is just that. You do not have to have been a corporate executive to be successful running a franchise business.

More than anything else, franchisors are looking for personable, outgoing people with a passion to succeed in whatever they do. A general knowledge of business is important along with the ability to communicate with people around them. If you have some of these qualities and can believe in the system at hand, you will qualify as a candidate any franchisor can identify with.

A franchise system needs good franchisees to expand their brand. Today, franchisors are trying hard to identify the characteristics and traits of their most successful franchisees. If they can determine some sort of common denominator amongst successful franchisees, they want to apply that to finding the best candidates for their brand.

Bottom line, be financially qualified and make sure YOU want to choose the franchise. If you cannot be passionate about the business model and the system, you'll find it difficult to follow the system. Following the system with passion is WHAT WORKS!
